Cambridge Development Forum response to Michael Gove’s speech this morning regarding government plans to address the housing crisis and boost development in Cambridge.

Lord Andrew Lansley, Chair of CDF and former MP for South Cambridgeshire, said the following:

“Cambridge is a key national asset. In Cambridgeshire, we have built a knowledge economy which leads Europe and competes with Cambridge, Mass. We have plans to build at least 2000 new homes a year but we are being blocked by failure to pull forward key infrastructure, including water and power. With support, that number can be increased.

If this Government initiative can deliver the infrastructure, the development community in the Cambridge region has a great track record in delivering new settlements and great places to live in and around Cambridge itself. We should never compromise on that quality of life.

I call on the leaders of local government in Cambridgeshire to take joint ownership of this welcome impetus from Government. Together, we can make it work both for the people we represent and to boost the national economy.”
